Wisconsin legislator honored at Waupaca Foundry

Rep. Kevin Petersen earns "Working for Wisconsin" award

Wisconsin Rep. Kevin Petersen (R-Waupaca) was honored with the "Working for Wisconsin" award from Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) on Sept. 12 in a ceremony held at Waupaca Foundry. The award is given out every two years and is given to legislators who support pro-growth policies during the previous legislative session.

"Rep. Peterson is a solid leader who has delivered tremendous results for taxpayers and the business community," said WMC President & CEO Kurt R. Bauer. "Rep. Peterson has a passion for policies that support job creation and economic growth, which is imperative to our state's future. Wisconsin has now witnessed four consecutive legislative sessions dedicated to passing pro-growth reforms, put in place and signed by Gov. Scott Walker. As our economy continues to expand, it is important that we have a legislature who understands the need for continued reforms."

Petersen was recognized for supporting a major piece of legislation referred to as the REINS Act ("Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny" Act) that makes changes to how government agencies create legally binding rules and regulations that affect business. Specifically, the law requires legislative oversight on regulations that have more than $10 million in implementation and compliance costs over two years. Rather than administrators putting rules and regulations into practice, the bill provides oversight. This is the first REINS Act enacted by any state government in the United States.

"Waupaca Foundry is subject to state government regulations that impact every facet of our operation," said Rob Johnson, chief financial officer for Waupaca Foundry. "Creating opportunities for oversight by our elected representatives will help us create regulations that work for business rather than against business."

The REINS Act was signed into law in August of 2017. Waupaca Foundry has been a member of WMC since 1959.
